Through its Day-habilitation and Supported Employment
programs, D&S Residential offers age-appropriate community
training and employment opportunities. The goal for each individual
is to maximize his or her potential to succeed in the community.
Learning
Skills
The D & S Day Habilitation Program provides skills training
classes and other opportunities for consumers to improve the degree
of their independence in the community. Skills training classes to
improve activities of daily living include:
- Personal grooming and hygiene
- Money management
- Reading and language
- Anger management and relaxation
- Proper nutrition
- Healthy exercise
- Etiquette
Companion Activities
To supplement the skills training, consumers engage in other
activities designed to reinforce the class work. Activities offered
include:
- Arts and crafts
- Jigsaw puzzles
- Board games
- Dance competitions
- Dominoes and similar games
The Day Habilitation Program works in conjunction with the
Supported Employment Program to provide consumers job readiness
training. This readiness training may consist of presenting
consumers with opportunities to work on a supervised lawn care
enclave, perform piecework assembly tasks or participate in
janitorial training at the Day Habilitation Center. Each activity
and experience is used to help determine the individual's ability
and readiness to work in the community.
