Services for Deaf and Hearing
Impaired Residents
D&S Community promotes quality of
life and independence within the community for deaf individuals. We
provide both residential placement and support services in the
natural home. D&S strives for success in community integration
and exposure to the local deaf culture. We hire experienced signing
staff to meet all communication needs. Adaptive equipment is
available to support communication for the deaf and to enhance the
living environment.
Services for Dually Diagnosed
Residents
A portion of the individuals that
D&S provides services for have been diagnosed with a mental
health disorder in addition to mental retardation.. D&S has been
very successful in dealing with this special population. There has
been a reduction in psychiatric hospitalizations for these
individuals since placement within the D&S Community program.
D&S has a noticeably high retention rate with these difficult to
serve individuals. Psychological and Psychiatric services along with
increased staff ratios are needed with this group of people.
Services for Youth and
Adolescent Residents
D&S serves children and young adults
in all seven of our geographic service areas. Many of these
individuals are medically fragile or require behavior intervention
programs. We serve children in both our HCS and ICF-MR facilities.
Services for Mobility Impaired
Residents
D&S offers, in each our service
areas, residential placement for mobility impaired individuals.
Selected D&S vans have been upgraded with lifts and other
adaptive equipment. Minor home modifications may be completed in
homes to meet the individual needs of our comsumers. These
modifications can occur in the natural home or in a D&S
residential home. D&S nursing staff monitor the adaptive
equipment and regular maintenance and assessments are performed to
ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals. Therapy
services are also provided, when necessary, to ensure the optimal
improvement or development of an individuals mobility capabilities.
